So I dressed up last night and met with Deepak, my new found investor friend at the Crown Plaza Hotel. After a few weeks of nervous negotiations over the phone with Sundar, a mutual business partner, I had thought that our deal was on shaky ground. I had committed myself even more when I told my boss I'm going to become and independent contractor and run his internet marketing only, and that I've been financed to start my own design company.
The second that he and I sat down, I felt completely at ease about this deal. Deepak was relaxed and more interested in how my truck was doing (he liked it) and if I got my GPS working correctly (it doesn't work well in downtown SF). I showed him and Sundar my business plan, which I had literally just finished a few hours earlier. I sped through my presentation and they had very little questions. He even nodded his head when I was reading the part of the budget where I would pay myself a salary along with my ownership. I was ready to negotiate that one. I did the business plan by the book, which impressed them how ready I was to do this. He even commented that he thought my assistant should be a good looking one. I tentatively agreed.
The only talks from this point on were about the name of the business, and where the office should be located. He also said that he wanted to fly me to India to show me the sights and to meet his mother, a governor (or prime minister) of a state in India. His family is very wealthy so it will be interesting to see how they interact with me.
So needless to say, the rest of this month will be busy helping my boss hire a sales manager, while at the same time meet with Deepak and our attorney to kick-start the LLC paperwork. I'm going to try to sneak up to WA for the July 4th weekend but it all depends on how well I do with the transition.
